WIKIS

Wikis are wonderful! I found this topic very interesting and informative. Wikis are great for organising group activities where everyone can easily add input. I looked at "The full library success", "SJCPL subject guide" and the "Book lovers wiki". I especially liked the "SJCPL subject guide wiki" as it was so user friendly and informal, with lots of great information. "The Book Lovers wiki" was also very good as it had lots of recent book reviews from readers, which can be very helpful if you are looking for a book to read.

New Challenge

Now that I have added my feeds to Bloglines, I think it is a great idea - to be able to go to one site and read about all the latest about what you are interested in. I especially like the Powerhouse Museum's Picture of the Day, and the SMH photographers blog. Have also included one on knitting, and the BBC page. Am sure I will change my feeds over time, but this will help me to stay up to date with less effort!

Borrowdale

Borrowdale

What a beautiful part of the world! I hope to visit there one day, and do some family history research as my great grandparents came from this area in England, and their name was Borrowdale. This particular exercise with Flickr I found very frustrating, and I spent a lot of time on this before it worked. I suppose the end result is worth all the agro.

Bloggomania

This course is going to be a real challenge - I only heard about blogs last year. The rest of the topics had unfamiliar names as well, so this will be a big learning curve, but a necessary one.

Blogs have a very useful place in libraries to display information, and update this information so that it is a very current resource. Library workers need to keep up with the new technologies as many patrons rely on our help to explain and help them cope. Very soon instead of helping patrons to create an email account, we will be helping them to blog!

I am looking forward to the rest of the topics so that I won't have that blank look on my face when I am asked a technologically-challenged question by a patron or even someone outside of work. I will be able to "talk the talk".

I wish everyone good postings!
